Abby Huntsman Shades Meghan McCain In Return to ‘The View’: “Made Too Many of My Days Too Difficult”
After leaving The View last year, former co-host Abby Huntsman has since gone on to blast the ABC talk show for its “unbearable culture,” and that she had to leave the show to “save” her mental health. So, it came as a surprise to most View audiences when she returned to the panel today as a part of the ongoing Flashback Friday special the show has implemented to reunite former co-hosts. Minutes into her return, however, the dearly departed conservative co-host let her true colors fly, shading the old execs of the show — and even, possibly, Meghan McCain.
Huntsman worked with McCain for just two seasons on the talk show, appearing from 2018 to early 2020. While the pair shared conservative spots at the table, McCain admitted that the two had a bit of a feud on the show together. When Huntsman left the show, McCain opened up about the reason behind her exit.
“This has been a really, really rough few weeks for me because I didn’t want her to go, selfishly, because I thought she was an amazing co-host and just having a friend there has been lovely,” said McCain at the time. “But it’s been really emotionally taxing to have like our friendship used this way in the media. It’s taken a real toll on me.”
But now, as McCain has exited the panel, Huntsman came back in a blaze of glory. She didn’t name drop, per se, but she made it pretty clear that there were plenty of folks on The View who upset her. After Joy Behar, subbing in for moderator today, asked if she missed the panel, Huntsman opened up about her recent comments.
“It’s fun to be back. I do miss so much of the show,” she said. “I’ve opened up more about why I left and when it happened. The problem with media today is it is so black and white. I’m a very nuanced person, as you guys know. My politics are nuanced, the way I live my life is more nuanced.”
Then, the former panelists dug a little deeper into her problems with the talk show.
“My journey on the show wasn’t one extreme or the other,” Huntsman began. “There were some tough days, and there were some executives here at the time and people here at the time who made too many of my days too difficult. All of them are gone. You guys lived a lot of that with me. I think all of them are gone.”
Behar, who has been pretty open about not missing her near-daily tiffs with McCain, couldn’t help but agree with her former co-host.
“I miss some of them. I do, I miss some of them. I don’t miss—” Behar said, nearly name-dropping her enemies before she cut herself off. “The panel’s perfect now.”
Earning a hearty wave of laughter from the audience, Behar seemed content with her not-so-subtle dig at McCain.
“I did miss you, Joy,” Huntsman replied with a chuckle, seeming to be on the same page with Behar.
